The Commission commenced on 1 January 2006.

The Chairman and Commission members are responsible for effectively steering the Commission so that the corporate strategy will give effect to the policy intentions of the Australian Health Ministers.

Work Plans

On 17 November 2006 Australian Health Ministers’ Conference approved the Commission’s Five Year Work Plan 2006/07 to 2010/11. The Work Plan details how the Commission will achieve safer, more effective and more responsive care for consumers. Improving the safety of hospitals will be an ongoing focus while safety and quality improvement in primary health care and the private sector is also a priority. The Work Plan reflects Health Ministers requirements and also builds on the work of the former Council.

On 24 July 2007 Australian Health Ministers’ Conference approved the Commission’s One Year Work Plan 2007/08. The main focus of Commission work in 2007/08 will be on nine priority programs that are derived from the five year work plan approved by Ministers in November 2006.
